Every time
someone asks you to pray for them, ask yourself how else can you
be God's instrument of peace. Ask yourself what can I do
such as . . . prepare meals for the family . . . visit them in
in the hospital . . . baby sit their kids . . . take them to the
doctor, etc. We are
indeed our brother's keeper!
The
Prayer Chain is the spiritual alarm system which
communicates and takes prayerful action on the needs of the
congregation, community and global needs. This network of people
who are committed to prayer take action on behalf of the
congregation on Jesus’ words to "ask and you will receive, seek
and you will find, knock and the door will be opened," (Matthew
7:7). The importance of the prayer chain is that it faithfully
intercedes on behalf of others in need by lifting up specific
requests, concerns and emergency situations.
The Prayer Chain is the life-blood of
the congregation! Oftentimes, because this work is behind the
scenes, the prayer chain, like our blood, is taken for granted
and forgotten. It is not until you have some hurts or needs that
you remember and are thankful for the prayer chain.
There is nothing to compare with the feeling you get
when another person shows their appreciation for you in even the
smallest way.
It helps to make your efforts seem worthwhile, and
it brings confirmation that you are doing something right in a
world where there is so much current turmoil.
Someone, out of the kindness of their heart, reaches out through
the confusion to show their appreciation for your sacrifice with
something simple but deeply, very deeply heartfelt.
Someone has put hands and feet to the prayers
everyone says they are saying for you and your safety.
Someone you never met offers some of their own bit of love
because they care about what you gave up for them.
Be there to show that there are caring people, and to show that
all the effort and sacrifice was worth it.
Lord, Make me an Instrument of Thy Peace
. . .
Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your
peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal
